SeaSide Sunday

More info about my trip to New York coming tomorrow. I've been catching up on things these past few days, so that's why the delay... here are some pics from my latest collection, titled SeaSide Sunday. This collection was inspired by my home away from home, a little village by the sea. Also Morrisey's Everyday is Like Sunday song was a big inspiration to the mood of the collection. Happy Autumn!

Garment District

So while I was in New York, I of course needed to spend time in the garment district to do my sourcing. It was a bit difficult by the time I was finished with all my fabric shopping I had loads of bags and bolts to carry around, luckily it takes like 2 seconds to catch a cab. One of my stops was Mood fabric, I've only ordered from them through the wholesale department, so I've never actually gone to the retail store as seen on Project Runway. Funny enough while I was in Mood I saw Christian Siriano from Project Runway shopping for fabric as well! I wasn't sure at first but as I got closer I made eye contact with him and sure enough it was definitely him. It was a bit exciting as he is one of my favorite characters on PR.

5th Avenue

I finally made my way to Henri Bendel's while I was in New York. It has been my mission to go there for over a decade! It wasn't quite what I expected, but I definitely found a few inspirations (to say the least). Henri Bendel's of course is well known for the new, the latest and the unique in fashion. However, most of the labels I came across are available in SF, so I didn't exactly discover too much that I didn't already know about, a few of my favorites: DVF, Black Halo, Missoni, McQ, Tibi. The selection was amazing though and can't be beat outside of Manhattan.

I spent a couple of hours in Bergdorf's, it was definitely like being in a beautiful museum looking at exquisite creations, huge selection of designer fashions.
I had a Breakfast at Tiffany's moment at Tiffany's (if only I was wearing my LBD), I so wanted to get in a cab and shout "Grand Central Station, and step on it!" I'm sure the driver wouldn't get it though...

So of course I had to visit Grand Central Station. It was certainly grand! I felt like I was transported to the 60's. So nostalgic, and the architecture was so inspirational!

Shopping in Nolita

My first inspirational shopping started out in Nolita, which is one of my favorite areas of the city, lots of cute little boutiques selling fun and unique garments and accessories. Hands down, my favorite designer/boutique was Mayle (242 Elizabeth St.), I love the tailored shift dresses with the unexpected drape or the fabulous vintage inspired prints with exposed zippers. Mayle's designs looks like vintage but in fact isn't AND the clothing is sooo well made. I tried this dress on and loved it (for a cool $560).
Mayle store front:

Poppy is a fabulous little boutique on Mott st. selling more easy-on-the wallet clothing, but with unique style, my absolute favorite was a forest green jersey dress from Development by Erica Davies
My last stop was Edge nyNOHO on Bleeker st. Now this was a very interesting concept, it's a co-op of local clothing, accessory and jewelry designers but each designer has their own both or space which is open 5 days out of the week. Designers buy space for a month and then either hire someone to work it or they work it as well. Nothing really caught my eye at the time, but I think it would be a great resource for people needing custom made items as you could meet the designer in person and do fittings in their little co-shop (but you'd have to be a local)...

The Market NYC

My first full day in Manhattan started in Nolita at The Market NYC on Mulberry Street. This is a weekend market showcasing young accessories, jewelry and clothing designers. My favorites were Sohung Designs, Eda & Betty, Jetta Boone, and Coko Jewelry. I also got an 'I heart Obama' t-shirt from Chane.

Coko necklaces: pictures taken of trees in Central Park

Sohung Designs: women's wear and men's wear clothing
Eda & Betty necklaces, this one titled 'A Walk on Mulberry'

I love this Cameo necklace from Eda & Betty
